Appy Hour with Happier Prizes

Do you want to increase your student engagement, win prizes for your students and your team, and add another trophy to your university’s hall of fame? This October, Handshake is running a friendly competition—Mobile App Challenge— between our partner universities to see who can promote the highest percentage of Handshake mobile app downloads with their students and of course, win amazing prizes!

What are the Prizes:

  • Top 3 partner institutions will receive either a gold, silver or bronze Handshake trophy
  • Each partner institution will receive one £100 gift card to give to students to incentivise participation
  • Each partner institution will receive a goodie bag for your Career Services staff as a gift of appreciation

How does the competition work?

This competition will measure universities based on the proportion of downloads: total number of downloads divided by enrollment during the specific time period (i.e. if Falmouth had 1k downloads out of an enrollment of 6,000 [0.167])

When is the competition happening?

The competition will run for 2 weeks starting on 12am October 25, 2021 and ending on 12am on November 8, 2021. Winners will be announced on the week of 8 November, 2021.

Who is eligible to participate?

All our UK partner institutions are eligible to participate and will be automatically enrolled in the competition.

What are resource to help you win:

  • Mobile App Playbook: Dedicated social media assets, updated flyers and posters, and a revamped Targeted Email template you can use to promote the mobile app to students

Why promote the Handshake App?

The Handshake mobile app (available for download on both iOS and Android) consistently shows higher and more frequent student engagement compared to desktop.

  • Mobile app use plays a key role in democratising access. Through Handshake’s qualitative user research, we know that many students only have mobile access.
  • Students who currently use Handshake’s mobile app are generally more active. Daily and weekly average student usage is 5-12% higher on mobile than it is on web.
  • Students on the mobile app perform core activities more frequently than web-only students. These activities include browsing for jobs and events, registering for events, and viewing jobs.

What resources will Handshake provide?

Use the new Mobile App Playbook to promote the Handshake app to students—resources include dedicated social media assets, updated flyers and posters, and a revamped Targeted Email template. The Playbook will also come with handy marketing tips to help you leverage all these resources effectively.

We encourage participants to follow Handshake on LinkedIn and Twitter to stay up to date on the competition. We will also send update emails.
